Cobalt Rooftop Bar & Restaurant are located on the 30th and 31st floor of the Pullman Saigon Centre, in the downtown area, just 15 minutes’ walk from the famed Ben Thanh Market. Eon Heli Bar, located on the 52nd floor of the ultra-modern Bitacco Financial Tower, is by far the highest spot in Saigon to sip on a cool drink and admire the City scape. The bar is easy to spot as the helipad that juts out of the building is on the same floor. More than twice the height of other rooftop bars in Saigon it provides a sophisticated décor of modern lounge seats, sofas and bar stools with soft lighting so guests can fully appreciate the 360 degree views of Saigon as day gives way to night and the city lights begin to twinkle. Glow Sky Bar situated in President Place has a fabulously historical view over the treetops to the former Presidential Palace. Even closer is the French colonial era city courthouse, this is one of Saigon’s most striking remaining pieces of colonial architecture. Then there’s the city’s fast changing skyline and its incredible density – it all makes for interesting viewing at the end of a day of exploration. And the skies are likely to add to the spectacle. Head up at 5:30 in time for sunset – and happy hour, which runs till 8. Glow’s feel is a little more welcoming and relaxed than some of the city’s other sky bars. It’s a great spot for an early evening quiet drink and a chat. Later in the evening, especially on weekends, the DJ fires up, Saigon’s young pretty things come out to play and Glow’s vibe becomes more like a club. It’s one of the Saigon’s busiest nightspots right now. And if it rains, there’s a full-blown nightclub downstairs too.

Level 23 Sky Bar located at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers is reputed to be one of the highest rooftop bars in Saigon. It’s not an intimate view but it’s big! The sheer height and scale is impressive. It takes in all the downtown sights, both old and new: colonial architecture like the Hôtel de Ville (now the People’s Committee), and modern skyscrapers like Bitexco Financial Tower (known as the Lotus Building), the second highest structure in Vietnam. It is a perfect place to enjoy a pre or post dinner cocktail, or beverage of choice, while taking-in the panorama. The separate Wine Bar faces the City and the Night Spot, with a live band, is located inside, both offer the same set of menu, cocktails and snacks. The Wine Bar is outside and has magnificent views of the Saigon Skyline and a calm and sophisticated ambience. This contrasts to the dancing and lively party music atmosphere of the adjoining night club.

Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar on the ninth floor of the Caravelle Hotel has been immortalised for its role in the Vietnam War as the location of the daily war correspondents and their watering hole throughout the conflict. This living history is palpable at Saigon Saigon where its famous past is reinforced with wooden fixtures, sepia photographs and a chequered black and white marble floor. Although the bar is only on the ninth floor the view is majestic overlooking many of Ho Chi Minh City’s famous sites. There is a daily happy hour from 18:00 to 20:00 and an excellent live band performing Latino style lounge music. The cocktail menu at Saigon Saigon runs to several pages and the menu has an excellent range of western favourites with some of the best steaks and burgers in town. All drinks are served with a sort of bento-box selection of nibbles that includes nuts, dried fruit chips and small crunchy shrimp.

Shri located on the 23rd floor of the Centec Tower was one of the early players on the rooftop scene when it opened around five years ago and its views continue to rank well. The uniquely historic late afternoon vista includes the former Presidential Palace – now known as the Reunification Hall and there are also glimpses of the leafy grounds of the vast colonial era French Consulate, it is also an impressive vantage point for a summer afternoon storm. Shri tends to be on the mellow side – somewhere for a quiet drink rather than a wild party. The design is contemporary and the space is large. It feels a little like a 5-star hotel bar. It has a generous happy hour that runs till 6:30pm and good value refreshments. And if you feel like hanging around, there’s an extensive dinner menu.
